Insurance by Property TypeCoastal and near-coastal homes face the highest wind and storm-surge exposure in Florida, and carriers underwrite them accordingly — some restrict how close to the water they’ll write a policy, and most require or reward wind mitigation features (roof shape, roof-to-wall connections, opening protection) with a discount.
Flood risk is separate from wind risk: a standard homeowners policy never covers storm-surge flooding, regardless of how close to the coast you are.
